Calling On The Name of the Lord

Arise and be baptized, CALLING ON THE NAME OF THE LORD.

The rule of grammar is that a participle, following an injunction, describes the manner in which the action is carried out.

Hence, "be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord," i.e., calling on the Lord by being baptized.

To "call" on the Lord is much, much more than saying, "Lord, Lord." "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21).
